Vellus hair grows back exactly as it was, same texture and colour. It can feel blunt at first because it's been cut straight across rather than tapering to a point, but that's a sensation, not a change. This is the single most common worry about dermaplaning and it isn't founded. ────────── WHAT TO EXPECT Before — come with a clean face. Skip exfoliating acids and retinoids for two or three days beforehand. During — completely painless, no numbing required. Most people describe it as a light scraping sensation. Relaxing rather than uncomfortable. After — no downtime. Skin may look slightly pink for an hour. Freshly exfoliated skin burns easily, so sunscreen for the next few days is not optional. ────────── HOW OFTEN Every four to six weeks, which matches your natural skin cell turnover. Any more often and you're exfoliating faster than your skin renews.
